ABA Therapy Roadmap
From Assessment to Achievement: each child's therapy journey follows a thoughtful, proven process designed to support their unique development and celebrate their progress every step of the way.
ABA Assessment
Assessment is a critical starting point in understanding your child's specific challenges, strengths and needs. Assessment can take a variety of forms but typically involves direct observation, interviews, surveys, and establishing baseline levels of skills and responding. The primary goal of assessment in ABA therapy is to help the BCBA develop an individualized treatment plan with specific goals and targets that will be incorporated into your child's daily sessions.

Individualized Plan
Based on findings from the assessment, an individualized plan is created. You might often hear this called an individualized treatment plan (ITP), or a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP). The plan will set specific, measurable and achievable goals, establish specific teaching procedures, and a plan for implementation.

Begin ABA Therapy
Once your plan has been established, ABA therapy begins. Trained technicians and your BCBA will implement the strategies outlined in the plan through structured teaching sessions, often in a 1:1 therapist to client ratio. The plan will involve family guidance and collaboration as well as plans for ongoing data collection and analysis.

Tracking Progress
Progress will be tracked each session and summarized frequently for your child. Your BCBA will analyze data regularly and make decisions about modifying programs to ensure success. BCBAs will request review meetings with your family to ensure discussion of progress and to identify needed adjustments to the treatment plan. When your child meets their goals, new goals will be established to keep them acquiring new skills.

Fading ABA Therapy
As your child progresses, ABA therapy may be thoughtfully adjusted and transition support defined and provided. A big focus on fading services is on ensuring that learned skills are maintained and generalized across settings. Your BCBA will likely increase a focus on independence ensuring your child can learn from environments where high levels of support are not provided (e.g., general education classrooms).

Graduation and Lifelong Learning!
Children will conclude ABA therapy once they demonstrate the ability to learn from their natural environment and development shifts have occurred such that their growth and development is similar to their same aged peers. This is often referred to as graduation and it is a milestone to be celebrated!
