What ACQ Accreditation Means for Your Family

Mindcolor Autism has earned accreditation from the Autism Commission on Quality (ACQ), the gold standard in ABA, across all of our centers in Texas, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nebraska, and Nevada. Here's what that independent stamp of quality means for your family, and a closer look at the programs behind it.

What ACQ Accreditation Means for Your Family

Choosing an ABA provider is one of the harder decisions a family will make. The options look similar from the outside, the vocabulary is unfamiliar, and there's rarely an objective way to compare one provider's quality against another's. That's part of why we're proud to share some news: Mindcolor Autism has earned accreditation from the Autism Commission on Quality (ACQ).

It's a milestone worth celebrating. But more than that, it's a signal to the families we serve that the care your child receives has been examined, verified, and held to the highest standard in our field.

What ACQ accreditation actually is

The Autism Commission on Quality is a nonprofit accreditation body founded by the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP), and it was built specifically for ABA providers. In our field, it's regarded as the gold standard.

Earning it isn't a formality. Accreditation follows an extensive, independent review of how an organization runs - spanning clinical operations, clinical personnel, patient protections, quality assurance, ethics, human resources, risk management, and business and financial operations. The process includes documentation review, virtual and on-site audits, direct observation of therapy, and confidential surveys of both staff and families.

In other words, an outside body looked closely at how we train our clinicians, how we structure programming, and how we deliver care - and found that our work meets or exceeds national benchmarks across all 20+ of our centers in Texas, Wisconsin, Colorado, Nebraska, and Nevada.

Right now, Mindcolor is the only ABA provider in Colorado and Wisconsin to hold ACQ accreditation, and one of a small number of accredited providers in Texas, Nebraska, and Nevada.

Why it matters for families

Here's how our Chief Clinical Officer, Amber Valentino, Psy.D., BCBA-D, put it:

"Families comparing ABA providers have very little objective information to go on, and accreditation changes that. It gives parents outside confirmation that the care their child receives is built on evidence, reviewed by experts, and held to a standard we're accountable to every day."

That's the heart of it. Accreditation gives you a trustworthy reference point when you're comparing your options — and it reflects the work of every BCBA, behavior technician, and support team member across our five states.

The programs behind the standard

Accreditation validates how we work. What that looks like day to day is a set of programs built around a simple idea: children grow and change quickly between the ages of 2 and 12, and the way a toddler learns looks nothing like the way an eight-year-old does. So our ABA programs are organized not just by age, but by developmental stage, attention span, emotional development, and readiness.

Growing Minds (ages 2–5)

The early years are when children learn to communicate, manage big feelings, and begin connecting with others. Growing Minds is our full-day, center-based early-intervention program — typically 6 to 8 hours a day, Monday through Friday — where learning is woven naturally into play, routines, and everyday interactions.

The focus is on foundations: expanding early language and communication, building joint attention so children can share moments with others, developing emotional coping, practicing pre-academic and school-readiness skills, learning safety awareness, and growing independence in self-care.

Colorful Connections (ages 6–9)

As children head into school and more complex social settings, the skills they need shift. Colorful Connections is designed to strengthen independence and real-world readiness, running 3 to 5 hours daily, or in longer blocks two to three days a week, depending on what each child needs.

Programming centers on things like following multi-step directions, peer interaction and conversation, personal safety, independent leisure, self-care and hygiene, and building tolerance for everyday experiences like medical and dental care. Because readiness varies so much at this stage, our clinicians assess eligibility carefully to make sure the program is the right fit.

Vibrant Pathways (ages 10–12)

For older children, the goal is to take skills learned in a supported setting and use them confidently anywhere — at school, at home, and out in the community. Vibrant Pathways, available at select locations, is a continuation program focused on independence and self-management: coping strategies, social problem-solving, daily routines, and strengthening peer relationships. Placement is based on clinical criteria and location availability.

The through-line: care built around the child

Whatever the program, the philosophy is the same. Our model uses applied verbal behavior to build genuine communication and meaningful, real-world skills — meeting each child where they are, and treating families as partners in setting clear, meaningful goals.

That means individualized programming that updates as your child grows, collaborative care coordinated (with your permission) across teachers and other providers, and a whole-child focus that considers sleep, sensory preferences, and emotional stress alongside learning targets. And because families see patterns we can't, your observations help guide the decisions we make.

We also offer comprehensive autism diagnostic evaluations, so families can move from assessment to treatment within a single organization rather than navigating separate providers and waitlists.
