How did you initially get started in the field of ABA?
My start in ABA was honestly a bit of coincidence. I was a student-athlete while in college so I was searching for job that could be flexible when I was in-season. I was walking through the Psychology building on campus and happened to see an ad for an in-home "Line Therapist" (that's how old I am, it wasn't called an 'RBT' then) and decided to apply. Admittedly, early on I wasn't aware that I was growing a passion for ABA. I just really enjoyed having a front-row seat to the client's progress and seeing how excited the parents would get when their child learned new skills.
Can you describe your journey within Mindcolor, from your starting position to where you are now?
I started at Mindcolor as a BCBA when the team consisted of about 15 people and 8-9 clients. Because we had a growing team, it was really cool to see how everyone stepped up to support to clients and the center as a whole. I was always so appreciative for the team members who helped me learn the ropes (some of you are still here!) After about 6 months, I stepped into the Center Director Role. The Madison Team took on a few big initiatives with me in those first few months (like moving centers in a snowstorm) but without them we wouldn't have grown to a team serving 28 clients and team we have now! In 2025, I transitioned to a Regional Director Role for the Madison area. I truly admire and appreciate the team here in Madison. As a whole, we have all grown and expanded in our roles to create a fun place to work while making great clinical strides.
How did Mindcolor support your career growth?
I always had supervisors or colleagues that were willing to help me learn. Whether I had a clinical question, operations questions or human resources--the leaders in those departments were always willing to share their time with me. I also want to acknowledge all the RBTS, BCBAS and OAs here in Madison that were always willing ask questions and share their perspectives. Those discussions and conversations have also allowed me to grow many of my skills.
What is your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of the job is being able to see the success of others. The position I am in allows me to have the privilege of seeing both client and team member achievements. Seeing the way their faces light up never gets old.
Favorite Mindcolor memory? This could be work-related, team fun, events, competitions, etc.
For my three anniversary this year the Madison team gave me a jar filled with personal notes from each team member. They included funny memories, quotes and things they appreciated. It was one of the best gifts I have received!
